To most sand car owners and
fabricators a fuel cell is an
expensive luxury.  However, most
would be surprised to learn that a
large portion of our business over
the years has come from sand
cars.  Why?  Most racers and
fabricators know that a fuel cell is
standard safety equipment because
of its ability to take a beating.
This same attribute also makes
them ideal for use in sand cars.  In
most sand cars, the fuel tank is
located behind the passengers
close to the motor.  While the heat
from the motor doesn't damage
the tank itself the intense
vibrations from the motor have a
tendency to fracture the welds of the aluminum tank.  Unfortunately, this is something that most sand cars are prone to.  Even when a fuel
tank is properly mounted using rubber mounts the sound vibrations caused from the roar of the engine does just as much damage as
without.  The result is constant removal and re-welding of the tank.  Because fuel cells are made of composite materials that flex instead of
breaking, they are ideal for use in sand cars.  Our Tapered End series offers both the reliability and safety of a fuel cell while keeping the
price to a minimum.  The "tapered" profile (common for sand cars) allows it to be fit in most locations, including behind seats and over
transmissions or engines.  The "false bottom" plate allows the can itself to flex as needed while still providing basic strength, structure, and
protection without fracturing the aluminum can.  Additionally, the flexible bladder keeps the fuel contained in the event of an accident and
the internal foam baffling reduces engine "starvation".  Finally, the simple hardware setup is compatible for most applications, reducing the
need to upgrade fuel lines or fittings.
