Popular on pumps, filters, and regulators the ORB (O-Ring Boss) type inlet/outlet allows a straight thread fitting to screw into the port and either maintain, expand, or reduce the port size to a corresponding JIC, or "AN", size.  Unlike pipe or JIC fittings, ORB fittings use an o-ring to create a secure seal; this also means that fuel type must be compatible with the o-ring.
