Assumption of Risk – It is well recognized that automobile and boat racing is a very dangerous activity that may result in injury or death.  Even with the utmost care and prevention, racing involves certain, inherent risks.  Persons using HARMON Racing Cells products and accessories ASSUME THE RISK inherent in these types of activities.

Disclaimer – Due to the inherent risk and danger involved in automobile and boat racing HARMON Racing Cells does not assume any risk or responsibility for injury or death in the event of an accident.

Limited Lifetime Warranty – Each HARMON Racing Cells fuel cell bladder comes with a limited 7 year warranty to guard against premature tears, punctures, or leaks that may occur during normal use due to poor or defective material or workmanship.  HARMON Racing Cells will not provide any additional warranty, guarantee, or reimbursement for repairs, replacements, or any other services performed on a fuel cell by any third parties without our consent.

HARMON Racing Cells warranties its products for 7 years from the date of manufacture unless explicitly stated otherwise.  The Limited Lifetime Warranty travels with the fuel cell bladder and is guaranteed to the current owner of the bladder.

This warranty shall be void to any fuel cell that has been subjected to accident, abuse, alteration, damage through the use of improper additives or non-compatible fuel, improper installation, or improper maintenance (or lack thereof).

Warnings
  1. Any modification of any HARMON Racing Cells product or accessory may result in failure of the system and may void any warranty.
  2. All HARMON Racing Cells products and accessories should be inspected before a race or after an accident.
  3. Regular maintenance should be performed annually or semiannually on the fuel cell to keep it in working order.  Yearly inspections should also be conducted to check for cracks, tears, and leaks, especially around the gaskets, “O” rings, and stat-o-seals. Failure to do so may void any warranty and prevent the system from working properly.
  4. Certain fuel mixtures may have an adverse affect on certain HARMON Racing Cells products and accessories.  Additives, such as nitro or alcohol, may also have adverse effects on the cell.
  5. It is not necessary to use any sealant on any gasket surfaces.  If you feel the need to use sealant, only use silicone sealants suitable for use with gasoline.
Note: Silicone sealants are suitable for use with alcohol fuels only.

FIA Certification

Each HARMON Racing Cells fuel cell bladder is built to FIA FT3-1999 specifications.  FIA certification is available for all Harmon Racing Cells fuel safety bladders but is not a standard option.

FIA FT3-1999

HARMON Racing Cells offers a 7 year FIA FT3-1999 certification for use in competition racing.  The specifications for such certification meet FIA FT3-1999 Section 2 guidelines and are as follows:

  1. Each certification is dated for five (5) years from the date of manufacture.
  2. After the first five (5) years the fuel cell is eligible for an additional two (2) year extension for a total of seven (7) years of certification from the date of manufacture.  To achieve this the fuel cell must be returned to HARMON Racing Cells for inspection, testing, and re-certification per FIA regulations.
Maintenance and Inspections

Maintenance includes an annual cleaning of the bladder, can, and plate to ensure proper operation and to minimize the chance of cracks, leaks, punctures, and failure of the fuel delivery and safety system.  This also includes an annual inspection of the fuel lines.

Inspections of the fuel lines, pickup, return, fill, check valve, plate, sender, and mounting hardware as well as the bladder itself should be checked before every race.  Things to look for include: cracks in the bladder, leaks at the gaskets or hose ends, secure mounting hardware, clean fuel filters, and any other component that may cause the fuel cell to not perform correctly or adequately.  Failure to maintain and inspect the fuel system may result in malfunction of the fuel delivery system or a void of the warranty.

Repairs

All repairs should be performed by HARMON Racing Cells.  In the event that the fuel cell cannot be delivered to or repaired by HARMON Racing Cells in time, repairs may be made in the field using approved repair kits and techniques and with the knowledge and consent of HARMON Racing Cells.  However, the fuel cell must be delivered to HARMON Racing Cells as soon as possible for inspection and proper repair.  Failure to do so may result in a void of the warranty or failure of the system.

Maintenance Parts and Upgrades

Each HARMON Racing Cells fuel cell is subject to free maintenance parts and upgrades as they become available.  Maintenance parts includes, but is not limited to, gaskets, check valve balls, stat-o-seals, tabs, bolts, washers, and any other component integral to the basic performance and safety of the fuel cell.  Parts that are deemed out-of-date are subject to free upgrade and replacement by HARMON Racing Cells.

Returns

HARMON Racing Cells reserves the right to refuse a return for any reason once a transaction is complete.  That said, our policy regarding returns for standard and custom designs are as follows:

Standard Fuel Cells and Parts

Any “standard” part and fuel cell may be returned for a full refund (less shipping costs) provided that it is in the same condition as when it left the manufacturer.  Standard fuel cells and parts that have been modified in any way, shape, or form are subject to policy regarding custom fuel cells and parts as set forth below.

Custom Fuel Cells and Parts

Depending on the complexity and uniqueness of a “custom” fuel cell or part it may or may not be eligible for a refund.  Any person seeking a refund for a custom fuel cell or part must submit it to HARMON Racing Cells for approval.

Damaged and used parts must be submitted to HARMON Racing Cells and, depending on condition of the product, may or may not be approved for refund.

Installation and Usage

Installation

Prior to installation be sure to check all fuel lines, including vent lines, for holes or loose fittings and replace/tighten as needed.  Note:  It is a good idea to fill up the bladder with a few gallons of gasoline to ensure there are no leaks prior to placement in the vehicle.

Once all fuel lines have been inspected the fuel cell can go in.  It must be placed within a frame, usually made of steel that is securely welded or bolted to the car chassis, and strapped in place using steel straps.

Next, attach all fittings securely to all pickup, return, vent, and fill lines as well as any electrical lines for pumps or senders.

Finally, once installation is complete turn on and let engine idle for several minutes to make sure all pumps and fittings are working properly.  Note: It may be necessary to replace fuel filters several times during initial testing as particulates in the bladder are filtered out.

In the event that any leaks do occur, address the problem or contact HARMON Racing Cells for assistance.

Usage
  • Operating Range : 0°F – 212°F   &   -17°C – 100°C
  • Hydrocarbon Fuels Only
  • Pump Gasoline
  •  Racing Gasoline
  • Diesel
  • AVGAS
  • No Alcohol or Methanol Additives
  • No alcohol or nitro additives.
  • Regular additives, such as those found in mass market fuels, are okay.

Additional Notes

Temperature

The fuel cell should be used in environments within the “Operating Range” to prevent cracking, melting, or premature decay of the bladder.

Be sure to protect the fuel cell from radiant heat sources inside the car (i.e. transmission, radiator, etc.) by means of a firewall, heat wrap, or other heat-reflective material.  Failure to do so will cause premature decay of the bladder and a void of any warranty.

While fuel cells are designed to prevent fires and explosions they are not “fire proof”.  Materials, such as the foam and resin, are extremely flammable at low temperature (399°F/204°C).  When handling or storing be sure to keep in a well-ventilated area free of fire hazards and with “moderate” temperatures.

Fuels

Most “pump gasoline” manufacturers use up to 10% Ethanol/Methanol/Alcohol in their fuel, which may cause premature deterioration of the bladder over time.  For optimum performance and longevity of the bladder we recommend using racing gasoline or a combination of the two.

Ethanol Fuels and Warranty

Testing for compatibility with Ethanol-blended fuels is ongoing but does show signs of compatibility with Harmon Racing Cells bladders.  With that in mind, fuel cell bladders using ethanol blends of up to E85 are not subject to the same 7 Year Limited Lifetime Warranty.  A warranty period for fuel cell bladders running ethanol blends is taken on a case-by-case basis and may or may not be covered under the same guidelines as the standard warranty.

For vehicles using ethanol fuels we recommend removing the fuel after each race and replacing it with 1-2 gallons of race fuel to prevent premature deterioration and extend the life of the cell bladder.

Maintaining the Bladder

To maintain the life of the bladder be sure to keep away from direct sunlight and water.  While water will not immediately affect the bladder, if left in water for an extended period of time the bladder will decay prematurely.

Regular cleaning of the bladder with help prolong the life of the unit.  When cleaning, be sure to look for signs of excess wear, tears, cracks, leaks, or punctures and notify HARMON Racing Cells of any damage found.

Storing the Vehicle/Fuel Cell

If a vehicle or fuel cell is going to be stored for a period exceeding 60 days we recommend draining any remaining fuel and replacing it with 1-2 gallons of racing gasoline.  This should be done every six (6) months to prevent premature deterioration and extend the life of the fuel cell bladder.

After an Accident

After any accident be sure to bring or send the fuel cell to HARMON Racing Cells for inspection and recertification.  Failure to do so may void any warranty and prevent the system from working properly and safely.
